Making us who we are

Assignment: What Has Gone into making us who we are?

Petals cling to stems until they're plucked off
Until a wind blows near or it loses all means of survival
It dies and the stem lives on its own, for a short while
If it remains with its roots deep into the ground
It'll grow and bloom into an alluring flower
If it too is plucked from those roots, the count down begins
To the day and place of its death bed
It'll be tossed from one end to another, without any abode
Without a place in the soil of their home
Without a grain of food to taste

An infant grows, whether cared for or not
It'll grow, but into what it will, we cannot be sure
Time prevails all suspense, peeking beyond a wooden fence
The mother, the father, the sister, the brother
Each soul was implanted into this new senseless life
The teachers, the peers, the friends and the environment
Sculpted it's thoughts and formed emotions
A definition for a word known as 'experience'
A word with meaningless meanings in words
Meaningful meanings in emotion and action
The glasses you wear and the lenses you look through
That'll form you and mold the chipped shards
The broken foot or shelter less days
Will form you and mold the chipped shards
The hardship, the ease, the smile, the frown
Will form you and mold the chipped shards

You'll run at the speed you were taught to run at
You'll pace yourself accordingly
You'll mend, you'll break, depending on the damage
You'll speak, You'll teach the way you were taught
You'll pass on a gift or guide someone to their death
Time will remold, set and break
The cycle only ends when the lifeline reaches its end
