Zo0o0o0om

Assalamu 'Alaykum

Watch this space. I spent about 2 hours organizing my recitation folder yesterday (and downloading a gabillion more files) and it seems I have about 500+ files (Qur'an, Adhan, Du'as, and Asma' ul Husna) and nearly 40 different recitors. I want to get through them within the next 4 months Insha'Allah. Just a heads up to those who'd like to know. If there's any you want, just holler. I'm starting from the beginning so you'll see some repeats from the past.

Interesting Happenings

Assalamu Alaykum

Screw eloquence and coherency.

Seriously, do cats want me to get over my 'fear' (or whatever)? The other day we're chilling in the masjid basement and the windows were open. We're talking and being stupid as usual until my sister interupts with a gasp and frightening face expression which scared the living hell out of us and I ended up jumping out of my seat to see what she was starring at by the window. There was NOTHING. What was it though?

A CAT! Apparently it had half its body thru the window, the windows are high so if it were to climb all the way in... I was sitting right under the window so it would land ON MY HEAD. All everyone thought about after that was "it would've been so awesome to see it jump on RE's head" blah blah blah... "it would've been so funny to see RE if it was to jump on her head" Barr. Eat pie. {I of all people have an urge to get over this fear, but this isn't exactly how I want to go about it... having cats jump on me or have them thrown at me like my friend's bro nearly did)

Then last week we were out for a walk, we realised there was a park near the masjid so we thought to check out if they had some sort of trail. We had to cross the street, it was a two way street, so as we're walking this old beat up car changes into the lane near where we were walking and it honks at us. WTH?! They were these spanish guys up in there, but it was more like a 'Hi' or a 'hey' honk, to give it a description. I cracked up at a comment, "When the heck did this turn into Pakistan? I thought we were in America?"

So then we go on our walk and whatnot and as we're coming back and crossing the street, there was this car... with an old guy and old lady. The guy honked at us, those REALLY looooong honks that you do when you're pissed at a car/driver or something (but the honk was directed toward us) and so the guy still has his hand on the horn and he slows down only enough to be able to catch speed again, and his buddhi (old lady) gives us the finger. Uhhhh... My friend started giving her badduas like "uski ungli toot jaye" (I hope her finger breaks) it was wrong, but funny. I'm like, in the process of ur duas, becareful.. your finger might fall off. May Allah (swt) guide them to Al-Haqq Ameen.

OH the events of that eventful/commentful day doesn't stop there. We decided to go to the carnival that night, so as we're leaving this dude's trying to get us to buy something from him for our friend's son. We just ignored him and kept walking toward the exit. OKAY, we're FRIGGIN OUT of the carnival area and in the parking lot and he started yelling "ONLY ONE OF THEM IS MARRIED.. ONLY ONE" for some weird freakish reason. We're starring at each other... "what does he mean by that?" And it's not like we're near by.. we were OUT of the carnival area and he's still yelling it like 3 times. HUH.

Something's wrong. I've never seen as many dead birds on the streets as I did yesterday. They were all around the masjid area and in the area of the shopping center next to it. I can stand seeing animals being slaughtered and dead animals, but I have this childhood issue of not being able to stand seeing dead birds. We walked to 7/11 for some waking-up assistance (caffiene) and there was a bird laying there, its guts had exploded out. There were many others near by. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi ra jeoon.

On monday I think it was... a squirrel nearly attacked my sis. We got out of the car (note: this is allllll by the masjid) and I saw a squirrel coming our way but didn't make much of it.. then out of no where it jumps from behind the building wall and is literally in the air with its claws out, ready to attack.. it looked FRIGHTENING, I thought it was posessed or something. It missed my sis by an INCH. I yelled for her to move, and I guess the squirrel got side tracked when she moved and it decided to eat/attack the stairs instead.

I always thought, that since MIST (nationals) is so close to home.. there'd be NO WAY of missing it. But Alhumdulillah, Allah (swt) is the best of planners. I'm no longer bummed, I know there's Khayr in us not going and I know there were some defects within my own intentions. Hoping to make a return next year inshallah, with a new team probably :-(. Dum dee doo.

CAN. NOT. WAIT. 'Til June. June 15th - 18th Inshallah!! http://www.suhba.org/

THE END. Back to Work.

The World is three days: As for yesterday, it has vanished, along with all that was in it. As for tomorrow, you may never see it. As for today, it is yours, so work in it.

This Drop

It's a literal drop
Not of blood
Not of water
Not even a tear
It's a literal drop
You can hear it
You can feel it
And in a sense
even smell it
It's a literal drop
It can destroy
It can mend
It can love
It can hate
It's a literal drop
It can soak
It can dry
It can live
It can die
It's a literal drop
It can weigh light
It can weigh heavy
It's a drop, A literal drop
And it's gotta stop
This drop, of fire
It's gotta stop
This literal drop

Zoological Familia

On Wednesday (may 9th) I was once again given a chance to visit my zoological familia. I think last time I went was 3-4 years ago. This trip was amusing to say the least... at times it seemed as if we were an isolated exhibit within the Zoo. At one point my teacher said to me "RE, you know that empty elephant cage.. we could set up an exhibit for you there. Make a sign and all."

I added onto it saying that we should make people pay to gawk at us and the money should go towards the school lol. Eating lunch was just entertaining. One kid passed by me saying "HEY NINJA!!" and another passed by us asking his teacher "Are those Indians?" There was this one cute little boy who said salaam to us, he was with one of the public schools. Masha'Allah

Some of the highlights were... seeing a fish eat another fish (picture included in post). A hilarious ape who kept putting a paper bag on its head and taking it off and being silly. A friend and I kept fighting over which animal was of whose family. We both claimed the monkeys were our family. In the end I let her have the monkeys because they stunk. The paper bag ape, she claimed was her uncle. I was thinking back to Darwin's rediculous theory, if he says we evolved from monkeys, he must be saying we stink as well because it was the smelliest of them all. Lazy tigers and lions, we were plotting to hose them down with caffiene and also plotting to conduct an experiment to see how the animals would react to Qur'an recitation or the Adhaan. There was one type of monkey that only talks first thing in the morning, so there was a sign that said 'come earlier to hear the monkey call' we became curious and one from among us said 'hmm maybe it's their adhaan!' While I was eating a bird came next to be and ate a green worm. Oh and Cheetas are apparently becoming extinct :O. And we unfortunately saw an elephant doing its business. Oh and last but not least, these was this hilarious contraption that the zoo security travelled around on, we were quite intrigued by it and actually got into a discussion about it.

On a more serious note: This time I went to the zoo, I was thinking at another level than I had before. Oddly and surprisingly I wasn't just going around looking at these animals, which I must say striked me as being weird.. it's like a freak show, you go around and gawk at these animals. I donno, I just found it weird this time around. Also, I didn't see them as 'animals' rather I kept substituting the word for 'Creation of Allah (swt)' which I know they are, but my mind wouldn't register using the word 'animal' at the time. One of the first species we observed were the reptiles, which was horrific. It was horrific due to the thoughts my mind began shooting out at the speed of light.. left and right. I seriously just wanted to get out of there because all I could thing about the adhaab of Al-Qabr. For one of the snakes, they had snake skin you could touch and I know it may seem stupid but just touching the snake skin was freaking me out. I went around reading the descriptions of these snakes and for one it said the snake squeezes its prey to death and to top it off it was HUGE and FAT. May Allah (swt) grant us the death of a mu'min and may He (swt) save us from the adhaab of the grave. Ameen

Then we went into the bird house, and it was just amazing subhanAllah. Whilst we were in there we started talking a bit about how it reminded us of Al-Jannah and of the mercy of Allah (swt). They're just amazing, I think bird watching would be an awesome hobby to take up {and yes, I'm still scared of them}. The kiwi bird was in this dark room, we tried to look for it thru the glass but alas it was hopeless. May Allah (swt) cause us to earn His pleasure and grant us a place in the highest levels of Jannah. Ameen

I took many useless pictures, well I don't see them as useless but obviously others will. At one point everyone was annoyed of my picture taking that my teacher nudged me and pointed to a twig next to some caution tape and said "hey RE.. that looks nice, why don't you take a picture of that" lol. Serious Good Times. Best part: MY SIS WASN'T WITH US :P (kidding, love you)

Pictures:The monkeys with the morning callThe Amazonia section of the zoo. LOVE IT!This is that silly ape with the paper bagThat's an elephant statue water fountainMonkeysThis was the dirty elephantCheetah's are becoming extinct!
This was one WEIRD bear seriouslyThe Panda was sleeping Beautiful bird. Subhanallah. It was a bit frightening though because it was in the open area, flying about, not in a cage.Tucan Sam! lol Reminded me of fruit loopsDucks. Quack. Quack.I couldn't get a picture of the kiwi bird, but I got this thing which was on the wall.

One from among us found the stingrays to be 'cute' ..Interesting.

SubhanAllah. Gorgeous.

The Fish eating the other fish. Graphical description? Well first it started pulling it by its lip and took it all around the water. Then it started picking at its eye and some more fish came to join him or her. Then it started picking at its body. You're welcome.

I don't have a thing with the rear of animals as people keep pointing out. It's just coincidence that each time they decided to turn around when I was taking a shot. Moo!

That's a lazy female lion. I wanted to see a male one, but there weren't any.

I remembered my sis whilst taking this one. She used to make donkey noises.

Some Chimpmunk type of thing.

Umm... I thought it was cool.

That's either a tiger or a lion.

I think that's a tiger

Ignorance

A family friend passed away on wednesday. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raje'oon
May Allah (swt) grant her the ultimate good of the hereafter and save her from the torment of the grave and forgive her. Allahumma Ameen
-----------------

I was an ignorant fool for sometime in this matter, and yesterday I found out I wasn't alone. Even when we were learning of the Palestine-Israel Conflict, I remember being told that the Dome and Al-Aqsa were NOT the same, but I didn't completely understand that because when other people would speak of Al-Aqsa they'd make it seem like it was the same as the Dome. I was on MM (obviously, as usual) and someone posted up this link...:

http://www.beautifulislam.net/diduknow/truth_al-aqsa.htm

I don't think it's really a conspiracy just ignorance.

Laisal Ghareeb

The first time I heard this nasheed was on this site, it gave me shivers (especially since it's the whole process of prepping the body): http://www.islamway.com/?iw_s=Flash&iw_a=view&id=33&cat=1&file_name=DeadWash&width=782&hight=438

Laisal Ghareeb--The Stranger is not...

1) The stranger is not the stranger to Yemen or Shaam
But the stranger is the stranger to the grave and the coffin

2: Verily the stranger has rights for his absence
Over the residents of the dwellings & homelands.

3) Don't chase away the outlander in his state of unfamiliarity
For time is also chasing him with hardship & distress

4) My travels are far and my provisions will not suffice me
My strength has weakened and death is calling unto me.

5) I still have sins which I know not of
Allah knows of them; those made in secret & in manifest

6) How merciful has Allah been to me by giving me respite
And I have increased in sins but Allah has always shielded me

7) The hours of my days pass by without regret
No crying, no fear, no sadness

8) I am the one who closes the doors with fatigue
on disobedience, & The Eye of Allah watches over me..

9) O' that which was written in a moment of heedlessness
O' the sorrow which remains in my heart is burning me.

10) Leave me to bewail myself and weep
and pass the time in sadness and remembrance.

11) Leave off your Blaming of me O' Ye who do so..
If you were but to know my situation you would have excused me..

12) Let me cry out tears that have no ending to them
for there will be no lesson that will set me free

13)It is As though I am with that family, laying..
Upon the mattress with their hands turning me over.

14) And they came to me with a doctor that he may cure me..
But of today I think not that medicine will benefit me..

15) My sufferings increased and death began to pull at me ..
From every vein, without ease or comfort..

16) My soul was then removed from me with a gurgle..
And my saliva became bitter at that point..

17) They then shut my eyes and left me…
after a long moment of despair,…. they hurried to the purchase of the shroud

18) And he who was dearest to me got up in a hurry..
To summon the person who was to wash me..

19) He said: O' my people we have attained a Washer who is skillful, clever, bright & intelligent..

20)So then one of the men came and removed my clothing..
He undressed me and denuded me...

21) They then placed me on top of a board
And the sound of water above me began to clean me

22)He poured the water on top of me and washed me..
Three times, before calling out to the people for the Shroud..

23) They shrouded me in a sleeveless garment..
And my provisions became the embalmment in which they embalmed me

24. They Bore me towards my journey Out of this World, Oh How Sorrowful!!
Will be this journey for which I have no provisions to take along with me.

25. Upon their shoulders, they carried me, Four….
Men, and behind me are those who come to bid me farewell

26.They set me before the mihraab then turned away from me
Behind the Imaam they went and he prayed on me then bade me farewell

27. They prayed over me a prayer consisting of neither Rukoo’ nor Sujood
Asking that Allah may have Mercy upon me.

28. They lowered me into my grave slowly
And one of them came forward to place me in the Lahd

29 He raised the garment from my face to gaze upon me
And the tears spilt from his eyes awashing me

30 Then he stood, honoring me, firm and resolute
And lined the bricks on my body then left me

31. And he said “Throw the dirt upon him and reap
The great rewards from Ar-Rahmaan, The Most Gracious”

32. In the darkness of the grave, no mother is there nor,
Is there an affectionate father, or a brother to comfort me

33. Alone….The only inhabitant of the Grave Oh how Sorrowful!!
Am I on parting the world bearing no Deeds to provision me.

34. And a sight which beheld my eye struck terror into me.
From a place of terror it came and startled me.."

35. Munkar and Nakeer, what shall I say to them?
The thought of them strikes terror into me, it causes me fear

36. And they made me to sit and put forth their questions
I have none other Than You now O Lord to deliver me!!.

37. So bestow upon me from your Mercy O Lord, How I hope in You!!
For verily I am fettered in my sins, I am confined by them

38. The relatives have divided my wealth amongst them after leaving me.
And my sins are now upon my back, burdening me

39. My wife has taken another husband in my place
And she has appointed him as overseer over my wealth and my home

40. She has made my children into servants to bid unto her needs
And my wealth has become to them a worthless means of enjoyment

41. So let not this World and its adornments deceive you.
And look at its (evil) effects in your family and homeland

42. And look at the one who collects the wealth of this Dunya in abundance
Will he depart from this world bearing other than the death shroud and embalmment?

43. Take from the dunya that which suffices you and be contented with that
Even if you were to have naught but good health

44. O ye who sow good, you will reap the fruit of your efforts.
O ye who sow evil you will find yourselves overcome with grief

45. O soul of mine, abstain from sinning and attain instead
Deeds which are Beautiful, for which Allah may be merciful towards me

46. O soul of mine, Woe upon you! Turn towards your lord in Repentance, and do that which is good
So that you will be recompensed after your death with that which is delightful

47. Lastly sending prayers upon the Chosen one, Our Sayyid (leader)

48. All praise is unto Allah, May he fill our days and nights with that which is Good, with forgiveness
With Ihsaan and Grace.

Kabhi

Kabhi...

Kabhi ahsa bhi hojaye
Kay dunya ruk jaye
Yahi lamha tham lain hum
Ishi naam par ho akhri dam
Kabhi ahsa bhi hojaye
Kay dunya ruk jaye
Aasman aur zameen bhi bolain
Unkay hamd aur muhabbat ka izhaar karain
Kabhi ahsa bhi hojaye
Kay dunya rukjaye
Ushi khowd main beht jain hum
Aur yaad karain kay waqt hai kam
Kabhi ahsa bhi hojaye
Aur deen pehl jaaye

Poem about Poetry

What the heck is this?: Cousin's 7th grade poetry project... she gave me what she was TRYING to say and I TRIED to help put it into poetry form. 2 weeks ago.

Topic: Write a Poem about How You Feel About Poetry

It's a means of expression and motivation
A tool to explode and divide each fraction
Of every emotion that lingers in the mind and soul
But to give it a ring to cling to the mind
I must say it's got to have a beat
To make it fun and cause one to tap their feet
As the cat in the hat and green eggs and ham
Have children mesmerized and rhyming about names
and games, even some lad named sam
Learn a thing or two from the man himself
Who put the hat on the cat and took poetry to a new level
Where anything and everything became real even santa and his elves
This is what I think a good poem should be like
It should attract the eyes and ears, want you to start spitting the words on a mic
It should flow like a water fall
With every thought and emotion before they dissolve
Poems, that's what they're all about
Just think about it, stop and read one aloud

The Dark Night

The night is dark and there’s no sign of light.

The tunnel is long and there’s no end in sight.

The road is thorny and the path is steep,

There’s no time to rest and no time to sleep.

The air is thin and the rope is tight,

There isn’t much energy left to fight.

The ocean is deep and the brine is cold,

The lifeboats of rescue have all been sold.

The forest is thick and full of peril,

At every turn are snares of the devil.

Seething serpents in every crevice,

Snarling hisses full of menace,

With crocodile tears and a stiff upper lip,

And venomous bites that cause steel to rip,

With fake smiles and eloquent words,

As sweet as nightingale singing birds,

With shiny suits and well-groomed hair,

They entice victims into their lair.

The world is ruled by crocodiles and snakes.

The world is ruled by frauds and fakes.

Diversity and multiculturalism,

(Are just fancy words for state racism).

Fairness and honour are things now extinct,

Justice and power are two things distinct.

Power corrupts and gets to the head,

It enters the blood and turns gold into lead.

Years without trial incarceration,

In what is supposed to be a great nation!

The rule of law and human rights,

Have melted away into silent nights.

Those who claim moral superiority,

Only instil hatred into the minority.

Those who care fear more for themselves,

And thus leave their values on the bookshelves.

So where are the bearers of valour and nobility?

Where are those who stand tall in adversity?

Where are the men who stood up to power?

And dismiss the urge to hide and cower?

Where are the men who have a conscience?

Why don’t they put an end to this nonsense?

Where are the knights and where are the scholars?

Who worry about more than their pennies and dollars?

Why do they fear to correct that which is wrong,

Then justify it with words that are so long?

If they can’t walk the walk, they shouldn’t talk the talk,

But sit at the table with their knife and fork.

How can it be that men are born free,

Yet they prefer to live in slavery?

Grovelling and bowing to the snakes on thrones,

Slavering away until they turn into bones.

But what good is there in a life of disgrace,

Where every second is spent saving face?

What is in the dark must come to light,

All then their lies will be swept out of sight.

For truth is a stallion that never fails its master,

If it is suppressed it gallops even faster.

The victims of injustice are thorns in the side,

Like bleeding arteries they never subside.

Until the oppressed are returned their dues,

Their plights will remain headline news.

The Day is approaching in which tyrants will weep,

As they have sown so shall they reap.

That is the Day: Judgement Day,

When the One Most High will have His Say.

The night is dark but it will soon be dawn,

Since the noose is tight so shall it be torn.

The night is dark but it will soon be dawn,

And there a new era….shall be born.

Ahem...

Tyrannasaurus Rex
Okay, fine... I traced it. But I already expressed my artistic limitations previously. It's a valid excuse. Though, I fail to see the connection between a T-Rex and attempts of calligraphy...

Imam al-Shafi' in his final sickness said:

When my heart was hardened
and my courses constrained
I made my hope a stairway
to Your forgiveness
My sin burdened me heavily,
but when I measured it
by Your forgiveness
Lord,
Your forgiveness was the greater.

Whispers of the Night

I started this after Fajr today and eventually finished throughout the day. I like the idea behind it, though I know the bottom part is excessively screwed up. I had to make quite a few attempts at the bottom portion because at first the surah I chose to write didn't look right then when I finally chose this Ayah, the arabic text was wrong (I had taa maftoohah beside of marboota and I had a waaw after the Laam on the word "kullu") so there was a lot of erasing. I just sat and quickly fixed it up which is why it looks nasty. But this is just a rough draft, I've been working on designs I could do this summer on a canvas and I think I'm thinking about doing something along the lines of this design.

Whispers of the Night
by Sh. Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq

I pounded on the door of mercy as the world slept
And humbling myself before my Creator I wept

Hands raised high and head bowed I knelt
And dejectedly began to lament what I felt

With a torn heart I gave a tongue to my woes and fears
And in great anguish and sorrow I let flow my tears

With poignant emotions raging in me so fierce
I hoped that my prayers would the heavens pierce

Oh Maker of my destiny, Master of my fate I cried
Thou art the only refuge and succour for one so tried

'Tis before Thee alone that I bemoan
Sufferings of mine only to Thee known

Pains and torments that I can no longer bear
Hopes and wishes I can entrust only to Thy care

For 'Tis only the ocean of Thine infinite bounty that sustains all
And only Thy forgiveness that restores those that fall

'Tis to Thee alone Oh Benevolent that I extend my hands in plea
To whom besides Thee can this wretched soul flee

Forgive my sins and grant me my desires Oh Almighty
Reject me not, for nothing can redeem me save Thy mercy

Oh What Joy...

As-Salaamu Alaykum

I remember being intimidated by older kids when I was their age, have things changed this much?

We're "blessed" to have two elementary level students with us this year and let's just say I'm awaiting the END of this year. In the beginning I told myself that one should be kind to children and that it wont be that bad and that they're probably pretty cool and whatnot, I WAS WRONG. It's as if kids are experts at uluu-fying (misleading) anyone and everyone. I know I used to talk ALOT when I was younger, but I did NOT ask as many questions as these kids and even that for the smallest and simplest matters. My sis and I made the mistake of giving one of them our cell phone numbers, BIG MISTAKE. Hey, I like kids... but these two and anyone like them can't be considered kids because they sure as heck know what they're doing. In my opinion, once a kid becomes an expert at misleading people and is aware of it, then it would be pretty stupid to let it slide. I remember when I was in elementary school, I used to feel so intimidated by the older kids... I rarely had the nerve to even talk to them. I don't mind kids being free with me and kidding around and I certainly don't want them to be scared of me but exceeding limits is a whole other issue. In reality, I'm afraid of kids.. let's just say I've had interesting experiences. So yeah, these were the OTHER bunch of kids I was going to post about last week but didn't get around to it. Stay cool in school, but don't make me into a fool. Thank you.

In other news I finally finished a piece I've been working on for the past 2 days. I promised myself I would take my time on it. It's a bit different, I'm experimenting different styles I notice in other people's poems, but this specific style has always been hard for me to grasp and I honestly don't think I did a good job in this specific attempt. I wont be posting it because the lines are quite long and it looks all distorted on my blog and because I'm not sure how I feel about it. Probably going to get some feedback before coming to a final conclusion. I need to deprive myself of writing for at least 6 months as I did before, because when I got back to writing I came back strong with a new flow and style. Lesson of the day: Don't over do it.

Spent the day home with a headache, talked to myself and whatnot. Entertaining.

Now... back to work.

{Odd... audio's not working on all the blogs I've been on today}

May Allah (swt) bless us with God fearing children and grant us hearts of mercy and love. May Allah (swt) cause us to constantly engage in His rememberance and May He cause us to distant ourselves from those things which distant us from Al Haq. Allahumma Ameen

Forlorn Glances

Because I know, I know
I was standing in that same spot
In that same place
Breathing that same air
Feeling that same breeze
That same rush which never ceased

Those same eyes, those same looks
Those same glances
Those same thoughts those same words
Those same glances
Those same actions those same choices
Those same glances

That same water, that same blood
Those same feelings
That same beat, that same rhythm
Those same feelings
That same yank, that same pull
Those same feelings

Because I know, I know
I was climbing up that same wall
Holding on to that same string
But not using it to pull myself up
I had that same voice and same words
That failed to fly out properly due to the missing wing

Those same eyes, those same looks
Those same glances
Those same thoughts those same words
Those same glances
Those same actions those same choices
Those same glances

That same water, that same blood
Those same feelings
That same beat, that same rhythm
Those same feelings
That same yank, that same pull
Those same feelings

I think I know, I think
Possibily those similar thoughts
Possibily a similar background
Possibily those same ties and knots
Possibily those same colours and sounds
Leading to that same end of the rainbow

Those same eyes, those same looks
Those same glances
Those same thoughts those same words
Those same glances
Those same actions those same choices
Those same glances

That same water, that same blood
Those same feelings
That same beat, that same rhythm
Those same feelings
That same yank, that same pull
Those same feelings

I don't know, I don't
Why I let the sun shine through the black veil
Why you didn't
Why I didn't have strength
Why you did
Why I continue to dwell across those same shores
Why you can't
Why I looked down
Why you looked up
Why I slipped
Why you fell
Why I swam
Why you drowned
Why I'm here
Why you're there

I know; I think; I don't know
But I know, you know what I know
A raised hand, a forehead to the ground
A priceless word followed by priceless sentences
Call it insane, call it an unbreakable chain
A worthy fight, a worthy climb
I chose to fail
You chose to win
