Artist: "Mems"

I got permission, and these are a couple of my favorites...

Rent my soul.

Have to pay the rent! No direct deposit so I had to visit the bank
Walking home I passed a man, and his vision was blank
He saw me as a man in a position of rank, decided to take his dues
Waited for the right place to move, gun butted so my face is bruised
Wanted my wallet and unlaced my shoes, laying on pavement smoothed
Blood spilled just wasted fluid, I could only think… our rents not paid
He took it all, plus I'm living check to check and having fits of rage
I sit and pray, Ya Allah! My spirits about to shift its ways
Kids need food and a roof, my youngest losin' his tooth; clothes ripped and frayed
Forget this pain even amidst this rain, stumble to the street, my fists are raised
Sin brakes free, I'm on a spree, and while I bleed people pitchin change
Knife flicked "gimme your chips and chains", selling what I can man it's insane
I'm folding money gripped in shame, told the pawn shops forget I came
Made it to the stairs just to trip and faint, kids I missed the bank
Take this to the super, Room 206 and say "Here’s the rent" before it gets too late

Just then the Police stormed in with their pistols raised, and took my kids away.

Meet Hood Boy

I'm a gutter kid in the lowest class, captivated by pasts and a downcast from society
A small town rebel ever steady clashing with the values of the very life that blinded me
Put the past behind me and grow to be something, a Doctor, a Lawyer, or maybe a Vet
But I'm scared I'll regret that I've chosen another life than what this place'll expect
So I succumb to struggles and fashions, categorize life through my troubles and actions
Numb to my passions, fumblin traction
, toss up my pride until it's tumbled and crashin
Now I may be a little rough around the edges, but I'm still human and the world's a mess
And based on the color of flesh, a white girl in the hood? Lets face it, that's a girl in distress
So check it, I grabbed her by the arm and at first she was scared so, yeah, she started to scream
Then something happened, my eyes captured this captivating smile, it was like part of a dream
Soon she was calm but, damn! She kept acting sweet, but I'm not getting caught in a scam
The thoughts of a man? So much warmth in her touch had never before been brought to my hand
"Just be cautious" I keep telling myself, "and don't let some girl take a hold of your mind"
Feeling cold and I'm blind. Mom's voice echoing; "don't fall in love unless you know its the time"
But it stands still when I see her, each second's an eternity as if every moment is froze
Every line dividing two alternate worlds seems to vanish 'soon as I'm holding her close
Guess it was fate from the start, the game's just an oil painting and I'm just a slave to the art
So afraid to depart, but with her in my heart? Then maybe for once, I'll be safe from the dark

Observing Destination

Two recent deaths in the family. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajeoon. One in Saudi and one in Pakistan. May Allah (swt) have mercy on them and grant them the Ultimate good of the hereafter and may He (swt) grant their families Sabr. Aameen

As a few of you are aware, I'm struggling a bit with my writing to an extent which I never thought was possible. It's quite rare that I feel any sense of motivation or inspiration, I tend to just write because I'm in the mood when I do. I was even doubting myself, because I still believe this isn't a talent I posess. Some of you made the effort to convince me otherwise. Thanks. Last night around 2 am I started writing and apparently inspiration made its way to me. I was actually enjoying writing. I stopped midpoint and thought to continue after I rested a bit, but even as I lay in bed words were flooding my mind so I kept jumping out of bed to quickly type them up before my memory deceives me. Although my source of inspiration isn't something very pleasant, it was well worth the time I spent writing it. I think as long as I'm content with the outcome of the piece, nothing else should matter. It doesn't have much of anything to do with the recent two deaths, rather a lot to do with my recent visit to the graveyard.

You know what's insane? I've been looking for the hadith that speaks about visiting the graveyard often, but odd enough my search results haven't been very helpful. So if any of you come across the hadith, please pass it along. Jazakallahu Khayr

Observing Destination

I'm standing, surrounded by green and a rush of heat
I'm standing upon the earth, a platform veiling a tunnel
I'm gazing into the sky, for a moment, I continue to stare
I want to move, but with this scent, I daze into reality of a nightmare

Though I'm feeling nothing, I'm thinking of feeling something
I look around and I see the names, the identities
I see a mother, a father, a daughter, a friend
I realised I'm standing on one just like them, one of the dead

My sight scanning row after row, nearly a hundred in view
Now I try to comprehend, this situation is nothing new
Once upon a time, their breath mixed with the wind and air
Time seized and engulfed them into the pathway of destiny

Then tears shed, and with budding roses they were honored with care
Now the question clings, were they cared for so
When they were exhaling moment after moment 'til they'd meet
the presence of beauty or a horrific greet

Carried on the shoulders of similarly bonded brothers
Brothers linked with their kinship of belief and religion
Upon their strong shoulders did they once rest
And with their hand, lifted and placed before they left

With a careful account, facing back with the 40th step
Well aware that it was the beginning, tainting reality
Releasing anxiety with a deep breath, I shall be back
In this same state as the hundreds in clear view
Well aware that they knew, probably had a clue
They'd be in this state when time was due
Ready is no one, not even a few, but we knew

Though they are like that of ashes, specks of flesh
Their visitation is visible by the state of their home
Colours may not vivify each hole once dug
It's almost easy to notice every creepy crawling slug
A mere task to notice if there was anyone after them
Anyone with the heart to keep them in their memories
Long after they'd leave the sight of every atom and soul
Keep them in their speech, another generation in stories

My mind had wandered steps ahead, but my steps rested still
I knelt to read the script upon one beneath me
Clearly I could read, 'To God we belong, and to Him we shall return'
I believe I have much to do, but I wonder why negativity kills so soon
There's hope, the earth yearns for the inhabitance of obedience
Those few moments spent in remorse and steady belief
Scents will spring and gardens shall bloom, at this price
Without gambling seconds, risks upon impulse with the spin of dice

Taking a few steps to see those present, breathing this same air
Gasping at the sight of disrespect, I continued to stare
Mosquitos juicing and sucking what was visible of my skin
With my neck bent, I gazed toward the ground
What lies beneath the surface upon which I stand
If it was to give in, where would I land?
On bones, flames, insects, and muffled screams
Scents of Roses, a sigh of relief
It remains a mystery to those who refuse
But also to us, invisble is the unseen

In only a few moments, thoughts jumbled my mind
As I walked away, looking back, looking down
I continued to look around with these same thoughts
I recognized some as solidly new, and others rather old
The grass grew green or the dirt was just taking form and mold
Though it seems like a flood of emotions, I felt nothing out of the norm
I left knowing it's reality, but not feeling it as my destiny
I knew it would be my home, where for years people roamed

For now I hear of honest acquaintances
One day, you'll receive the same news about me
Phone call after phone call I assure you it wont stop
Cut the string, look straight and keep walking
Soon you'll join, as soon as you hear the knocking
The tears will roll and the urge will intercede
To look back and grasp any chance to change destiny
Look straight and keep walking, 'Kun' it is, it will be

Within moments, another making its way to a limited end
Another beginning a life with their first breath
Life and time begin with a mission, to contend
Beat the clock to meet none other than death
One soul escapes, another begins to live

But why is it that we fear this gift so?
The lover yearns to return to that which is beloved
A clear matter of the path we walk
With this determination and yearning the key shall lock
All the doors to a demon, keeping this heart from turning to rock

And so was my visit to a bed of flowers
A garden, where the dirt increased within days of a planted seed
Alluring colours covering inches and inches of the floor
Only to walk closer, to read... "A loving father and grandfather 1921-2004"

He'll Reach

So many lives changing
As the minutes pass
No body knows when they'll
See a shadow coming their way
facing what's known to us as reality
But we deny, even today
When we know, the world's gone astray

Yet we know that
So many lives are, changing
But we breath on while hundreds fall
To the ground, with no heartbeat no heartache

So many lives are changing
Children growing
Nobody knows...
What they're doing
Nobody knows...
What they're feeling
Nobody knows...
Where they're going
Noboy knows...
How they're living
No body knows

Nobody knows...
Because they don't believe
They don't see
It lies before their eyes
They're calling their names
For help and guidance
But they don't see
The innocence of a child
They pick up a 47 to blow the mind
Of a child barely seven
He'll reach
Far above the ground
He'll reach,
He'll walk, he'll run, he'll fall
But, He'll reach to heaven

I have a mousse

Okay, that was my cousin's pun.. not mine :P

Mango mousse. I'm sure you've noticed from my past experiments that I have a tendency to cook either late at night or wayyyy early in the morning and also to that, I tend to experiment on guests when I indulge in whipping something up for the first time. With that said, it'a 1:02 am and I just finished whipping up mango mousse for the first time. It didn't turn out as pretty (looking) as I had hoped. Apparently it tastes like melted mango ice cream. Meh.
